LOCC Set to Start Serving Children in the Community

Updated: Sep 1, 2020

A Year's worth of collaboration is culminating in a new non-profit setting up to open on September 15, 2020

A year ago the Ascension Parish Chamber of Commerce started a new class for their Leadership Ascension Program. Every year the class makes a big community impact. Through one of the projects for class of 2020, LOCC was born through a collaboration that had to endure unprecedented times and delays. All the teams are proud to announce the opening of LOCC on September 15, 2020.

The location quickly grew and became their own organization with a team of community partners behind them.

One member of the Leadership Ascension Class of 2020 had served as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children in foster care. She suggested to her group they start a 'foster closet.' The team thought about how to implement such a project that would be self sustaining in the long term and decided they would need to find another organization that could help commit to keeping the location up and running. They found The Foster Village in Walker, LA who jumped aboard on opening a new location if the Leadership team could find a place and get it set up. The search for a location began and multiple resources kept directing the team to Fellowship Church in Prairieville, LA. A collaboration soon formed and the new closet was to be the pilot project for a community hub Fellowship Church was hoping to open up on their former property. The new location quickly grew and became their own organization with a team of community partners behind them. COVID-19 struck in March of 2020 and slowed things down, but the team got back up and rallied to get open and doing the work to serve families in need in the area!
